Critical Stage Company’s first Canadian Production, “Achieved little here…not a success” was a double bill featuring Eugene Ionesco’s ‘The Lesson’ and Barrie Keeffe’s ‘Gotcha’. November 25 – 30, 2003 at the Baby Grand Theatre, Kingston, Ontario.
A pupil arrives for her lesson with the Professor. Ionesco’s classic tale is known to many as a devastating perversion of the relationship between master and pupil, emphasizing the potential abuse of power and oppressive tendencies of our educational establishments. Keeffe’s ‘Gotcha’ presents us with the reaction of a kid who has failed in such a school system. Critical Stage Company is known to UK audiences as a platform for frustrating previously held beliefs. In this new production CSC breaks the Ionesco chain to ask the Professor to face the consequences of his actions. All kids, young and old, are invited to come and join in the rebellion.
